My dream of charity

If someone asks what my dream is, I can tell them my imagination or anything about my future and goal. I have had being a big dream since I was child – helping poor children in my country. When I was child I saw some children living like a dog, maybe worst than some of dogs. Also, the children who are suffered by poverty are not only in my country but also around the world. I really want to help them as much as I can. I know it is not easy to do it but doing or making a real is better than just dreaming. However helping means not supply them with food and clothes just couple times; that means to lead them to nice future and prevent from new homeless children. For doing it, I have to obtain good education through studying abroad and to find a way which is more useful for helping them and I have to be strong to cope with many problems. Moreover, I can not do it by myself so I need a help from other people who has same opinion as me and government. In contrast, I am afraid of giving up my dream because of any reasons, such as sometimes when I have a problem, I think that if I can not help to myself, how will I help to other people. Also, I am not rich, so I will be probably faced with money problem. However when I see like kind of children, I really want to help them because it is not their wrong; they did not choose that kind of life. My dream is every child in the world is happy with their parents, if it is possible…

In “Fishermen go after protected sea lions” the author talks about competitions between sea lions and salmon; and that between fishermen and sea lions, because the fishermen are upset that sea lions feast on salmon at the Dam at the Columbia River. For this reason, some fishermen have shot the protected sea lions and some of the fishermen have already been fined because of the shooting. According to the article, the impatient fishermen are extremely disappointed in the sea lions and they think that the declining of salmon growth is dependent on them. However, A small percent of sea lion’s population eat just a small percent of salmon, which is hooked by fishermen at the Dam. So, we can understand that sea lions are not a serious reason for depletion of salmon.

There is a very interesting question to point out that if sea lions endanger to the salmon, why have they coexisted for thousands of years? Also, why were the salmon populations reduced haphazardly after the dam was built? According to the questions, all sea lions do not have to be responsible for these dead salmon. In truth, the construction of dams were a serious reason for depleting the salmon population, because the habitat of salmon were changed by the dams, and the salmon reservoirs behind the dams attract sea lions. The first consequence of dams is that the salmon have lost their habitat and they have started to spawn in waters closer to sea. For this reason, more than a half percent of baby salmon die. The second negative consequence is that dams inspire to the sea lions to feast on the salmon.

There are two agreements to solve that problem, which is how to save the sea lion and the salmon. Some people agree that they should kill small percent of sea lion population for keeping a balance between the sea lion and the salmon, because they think that the sea lions are responsible for salmon deaths. On the other side, some people totally disagree with that opinion because they think those dams are leading to salmon deaths. In my view, the solution of that problem is to eliminate the dams in the Snake River. If those dams can be eliminated, the salmon will have their habitat restored and they will come back. Also, it probably can reduce the salmon baby’s deaths. Another advantage of eliminating the dams is that the risk of salmon deaths would be reduced, when they pass through the dams.

In conclusion, that problem is very complicated to solve, because the problem is a kind of cycle connection among the involved parties. That means, the protected sea lions feast on the protected salmon, and for this reason the protected sea lion is endangered by fishermen, who hook the salmon to supply their living. Therefore, if experts of the protection act do not want to kill the sea lions; and on the other hand the fishermen want to prevent the extinction of salmon, they should focus on eliminating those dams. That solution will probably work for all of them.

The haunted barn

 Last week, CESL had a trip and it was postponed because of bad weather. However, after canceling the trip, the weather was very nice and everyone who planned to go was upset. For me, i really do not want to stay at home on such an interesting day, and i went to the haunted barn, because some of my friends said "it is very interesting." That barn is in Marion, and actually, it was very funny more than scary. I have never been in a scary place, even though i know a similar kind of place in my hometown. I thought i would cry because of being scared, but I almost cried because of teasing my friends. After that we went to the Pinch and i met with my friends and they wore costume. I had a very hard time recognizing them because they really could change their appearance. At this, i felt it was somewhat strange situation, because most people were drunk and they were really emotional. That's why i felt that place and stayed at my place. Next day, I heard about some people who always destroyed something and made a problem on this day in Carbondale.

Halloween

Today is Halloween day and I had a CESL party in Faner. Actually, the Halloween day started last week and I have really enjoyed it because I celebrated the Halloween day first time in America. In my country we also celebrate the Halloween day, therefore I am familiar with it. However, I have noticed some differences between American Halloween day and Mongolian Halloween day. In America, that day is very popular and people are very exiting to wear a costume because that day is a big chance of being who you are and who or what you want to be. I think the American girls like dressing up very sexy and guys binge on drinking an alcohol. That’s why some bars are closed in the Halloween day in Carbondale because a binge drinking leads to violent crime, especially when no one can know who they are. Also, according to the tradition of the Halloween day, children knock the door and take a candy corn and chocolate home to home. I think that is very dangerous for their health because a blood sugar will be increased by tons of candy and chocolate. Maybe, it is one of the reasons of more than half population of Americans has a high blood sugar, because it inspires children to eat a lot of sugar. The most interesting thing of Halloween is a pumpkin and almost everyone or every family carves the pumpkin, whatever they want. In my country, we do not carve the pumpkin and we do not dress up like Americans. In Halloween day, we always make a joke with our friends by giving them a scare and we go to the party or disco bar. Also, we have a Mascara party. If I want to go to that party, I must to dress up like the 13-16th century ladies dress and wear very nice mask. The Mascara party is very elegant and luxury, because it always organizes in most expensive palace and famous people participate. Anyway, it does not matter how to celebrate the Halloween day; I am just wondering why people celebrate the dead day.

To protect or to threat

In “Sea lions show salmon what it really means to be endangered; Wildlife officials in a pickle as one protected species feast on another near dam” the author writes that some part of the Columbia system has a new problem to protect two disappearing species, sea lion and salmon, at one time.

The sea lions are one of the protected species under the Marine Mammal Protection Act, because they were almost disappeared because of some other reasons. Fortunately, the number of identified sea lions has increased because of the successful protection act and large numbers of sea lions travel the Pacific Ocean. On the other hand, Oregon Fish and Wildlife department has a new issue to protect other species of fish, especially salmon, which are protected under the Endangered Species Act, after the growth of the sea lion. The serious problem is, one protected species threaten another protected species, and feasts on them, and it is difficult to protect both of them. Furthermore, experts have not found a useful way to deal with that problem; however, they have tried some methods. The most important problem of protection of sea lion and salmon is that every year, the number of sea lions that come at the dam in Bonneville, where salmon gather and spawn at is increasing, and they eat them more than before. That’s why experiments have tried to kick the sea lion out at the dam.

First, they have tried to make the sounds of killer whales, which feast on sea lions, that sea lions will take fright underwater and they chase salmon. However, that is just a temporary way to protect the salmon and not useful, because the sea lion probably would come to back and prey on the salmon again. Second, they have installed a new floating barge for the sea lion to rest on and that barge helps them to leave that dam, and also, when the sea lion rests, they do not chase the salmon. That is useful and a better way to bring the sea lion downriver, and get them to stop staying at the dam. Third, some people think that too many sea lions eat too much salmon, so they have requested for permission to kill some number of sea lion to keep balance between sea lions and salmon. But, some experts are against killing them to solve that problem, because they have done many protection acts to help the sea lion grow. On the other hand, they did not expect the salmon to become extinct.

According to the article, the author shows us a complicated problem to solve and tells about some of the protection acts. As everything has cause and consequences, the successful protection act of the sea lion has become a cause for the number of salmon to declined for years. Leaving those two species in nature without control is a good way to save them, if the protection act does not work to protect both of them. Those animals have existed for a long time in nature without any help of people, and they have always evolved new strategies for survival. That’s why, when we try to protect one species, that action threatens another species.

Journal exercise#2

There are many kinds of relationships between people, such as friend, family and couple. The most complicated relationship is between man and woman because when they fall in love with someone, they can not control their feeling and they just think they live only for loving someone. Everyone has been trying to describe and explain what love is and what a rule of relationship is. I think, no one can explain how to make successful relationship because there is no rule and people play their own style.
However, all relationships do not always bring happiness, also, any kinds of suffer might be happened, therefore that relationships will be finished an unexpected day by any kinds of reasons. I prefer to be make friendship because that is easy to communicate with people. Also, if I have many friends as possible as I can, I feel that life is easy. Oh course, not like that easy, but when I have a problem, my friends always help me to solve my problem and also, I always share my happiness with them. However, the finding right friend is very difficult because most people hide their real faces and it is same as puzzle to find who is.
There are many ways to meet with people and they choose the right way, which will work with them. For me, I like an unexpected meeting, because I never forget that in future. I have some friend as we have known each other like that way and when we meet, we always talk about our funny story and tease each other.
In my country, we mostly meet with new people in a public area where many interesting people gather at. For me, I go to many various places, if I want to meet with someone. In truly, I had been in relationship with my boyfriend since I was in the high school, so I do not exactly have an experience of making a new relationship. However, I understood that a long distance is really good challenge of checking my relationship. Sometimes, the goal of my future seems me more important than my relationship, therefore I am here. Sometimes, I regret I left my boyfriend and, at this time, I really could not recognize that our relationship would be failed by challenge of long distance. Next time, if I leave someone, I should choose which one is important in my life: my boyfriend or my education.

Travel and enjoy

Everyone likes to travel around the world and wants to know the most appealing places. I travel to as many as countries as I can and in my opinion of the world, all nationalities’ life style has changed. In other words after all my exiting travel, I have gotten more information than before. If you ask me about where you should travel, I will probably suggest to you, “Singapore”. I have not been to many countries, but, Singapore is an exciting and attractive country. I went there 3 years ago to study the English language. However, I really did not study the English language, because it was too short a time and there was no environment to study in, even though the official language of Singapore was the English language. Indeed, I did not want to spend all my time studying instead of enjoying myself with my friends. We always went out interesting new places and mostly, we were all the time on Sentosa Island. Sentosa Island is the one of the famous islands and if you go there you never get bored, because there are many interesting events for tourists. Moreover, I met there many nationality people, who were also traveling, and enjoyed learning about their countries, especially culture and some kinds of strange culture. Mostly, all people of Singapore are tourists and they just spend their time perfectly, because that countries government’s goal is for tourists. That way, every tourist is satisfied to travel in Singapore; also me, and it is really an ideal place to relax
